Reverse Therapy for Chronic Fatigue and Pain
What is Reverse Therapy?
Reverse Therapy is a brief, educational form of brain retraining developed by Dr John Eaton. It teaches you to recognise physical symptoms - fatigue, pain, brain fog - as alarm signals from an over-activated threat system, and shows you how to answer those signals so the brain can safely switch the alarm off.
What conditions can Reverse Therapy help with?
Reverse Therapy is most often used for chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and fibromyalgia With muscle tension, unexplained pain, persistent stress, brain fog, stomach pain/bloating, sleep disruption, immune dysfunction and other symptoms linked to Bodily Distress Syndrome.
Is Reverse Therapy a medical treatment or diagnosis?
No. Reverse Therapy is an educational process, not a medical treatment. It does not diagnose, treat or cure underlying medical conditions - it teaches you how to interpret and respond to physical symptoms as regulatory messages from the brain. We recommend getting a medical opinion before starting.
How is Reverse Therapy different from other brain-retraining programmes?
Like other brain-retraining approaches, Reverse Therapy recognises that recovery results from taking actions that neutralise the triggers that set off the brain’s alarm response in the form of symptoms. Gradually re-educating the brain so that neuroplasticity can take place. The four specific triggers we have identified are:
Unresolved emotion (conflict)
Anxiety
Recurring stressful situations
Loss of reward in daily activity.
Can I try Reverse Therapy on my own, or do I need a therapist?
Both options exist. Many people start with Dr Eaton's book for self-guided study. Others prefer one-to-one sessions with Dr Eaton, in person in Kintbury or Basingstoke, or securely online.
Is there research or evidence that Reverse Therapy works?
Reverse Therapy draws on established concepts from neuroscience, clinical research into Bodily Distress Syndrome, and symptom-focused therapy. Client case studies and testimonials are published on our Case Studies page. As with most mind-body approaches to chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, it has not been the subject of large-scale clinical trials.

Note: Reverse Therapy is an educational process and a mind-body retraining method. It does not claim to diagnose, treat, or cure underlying medical conditions. Instead, it teaches clients how to interpret physical symptoms as vital regulatory messages from alarm systems in the brain.
